A dissertation discussion should explain what the study's findings mean in relation to the research questions, the earlier evidence base, and the limits of the research design. It is where the dissertation moves from reporting findings to making a defensible argument about their meaning.
Discussion support is most useful when it keeps that argument proportional to the evidence. The chapter should identify which finding answers which question, compare the result with relevant prior research, examine plausible explanations, state implications at the right level, acknowledge limitations that affect interpretation, and finish with conclusions that the study can actually support.
Build the discussion from a question-to-finding map
Before writing long interpretive sections, identify the major finding or group of findings that answers each research question. This creates a simple control for the chapter: every major discussion section should be able to show which research question it serves and which reported result it is interpreting.
A finding does not need to be dramatic to deserve discussion. Null, mixed, contradictory, context-specific, or unexpected findings can be central when they answer the study's questions. The chapter should not give disproportionate attention to an incidental result merely because it is surprising.

Evidence from one organisation, one setting, a limited sample, a specific dataset, or a narrow case does not automatically justify a universal recommendation. Distinguish an implication from a recommendation
An implication can describe what the evidence suggests matters. A recommendation asks someone to act, change a process, conduct further research, or make a decision. For example, a sampling limitation matters because it may restrict which populations or contexts the findings can represent. A measurement limitation matters because it may change what a variable or construct actually captures. A short observation period matters when the phenomenon can change over time. The limitation should therefore be connected to the claim it constrains.
Do not turn limitations into a generic disclaimer list
Statements that could be copied into almost any dissertation add little value. The most useful limitations are specific to the decisions and evidence in the actual study. They should neither destroy confidence in the research unnecessarily nor minimize real constraints.

Recommendations should also avoid solving problems the study never investigated. The conclusion stage is not a place to introduce a new intervention, population, theory, or policy claim that has no analytical basis in the dissertation.
